BLOWHOLE CAVE TRIP PLANNER

We are thrilled that you would like to explore the Blowhole Cave. The information on this page is organized to help you plan and execute a safe trip. Exploring the cave is a privilege and several steps are needed for your group to gain access permission to enter the cave.

GATED: The Blowhole Cave is gated and locked. Trips are very limited and can only be taken with qualified and approved Trip Leaders. Contact the Timpanogos Grotto for help locating a Trip Leader. Due to the death and closure of the Nutty Putty Cave, only Grotto led trips are being approved at this time.

RESPECT THE LAND: As part of our management agreement, we encourage all of our visitors to respect the land owner’s property. If we fail to respect the land, then the other alternative is to fill the entry to the cave with concrete and ruin any future for exploring the cave.
So where should you start? Please complete the following steps.
BEFORE YOUR BLOWHOLE CAVE TRIP

Trip Leaders, now that you have everything above completed and in hand, all you need to do is submit your final Cave Access Request Form and submit your Deposit.

  • STEP 6 - BLOWHOLE CAVE ACCESS REQUEST FORM - MANDATORY - This form must be submitted 72 hours before your trip, but after you have got the rest of your trip, group, equipment, and forms finalized. Access directions will be sent once the Cave Access Request Form and Deposit are received.
  • STEP 7 - BLOWHOLE CAVE DEPOSIT - MANDATORY - Each group is required to place a $25 credit card Lock/Damage/Trip Report deposit. Ideally, just wait to submit this form once you are ready to submit the Cave Access Request Form.
DURING YOUR BLOWHOLE CAVE TRIP
Register
The Nutty Putty Cave Register - WARNING: This is NOT a pipe bomb!

CAVE REGISTER - The register is usually found after the first drop, but who knows whether it took a tuble to the bottom or not. Please be sure to sign in and help to preserve the historical record.

CAVE MAP - It is hoped that you take along compasses and that each caver has their own copy of the map. Don’t overlook the great opportunity to navigate inside the cave.

GATE LOCK - The gate is equipped with a high-security combination lock. You will be required to open it to unlatch the gate when you enter and then again to latch it from the outside when your group leaves. The combination is sent out 24 hours before scheduled trips.

AFTER YOUR BLOWHOLE CAVE TRIP
  • STEP 7 - TRIP REPORT - MANDATORY -The Trip Leader is responsible to fill in the Trip Report within 7 days after their visit to the cave. Failure to submit the report will result in the billing of the $25 deposit. The Trip Report is the key step in identifying and resolving issues and hazards at the cave.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
The above requirements must be followed to preserve the cave, help eliminate rescues, and provide a safe caving experience for decades to come. Failure to comply with the rules and procedures will not be tolerated.
