Today I read about a death at Angels Landing and a death at a motocross park in Salt Lake. Are these two places going to be closed down? Nutty Putty Cave has had its first death since its discovery almost 50 years ago. It was a tragedy, and my sympathy goes out to friends and family. But aren't these other deaths also tragedies? Thousands of people have enjoyed exploring the cave quite safely. I have taken my children there as well as Boy Scouts and friends. We've never had a problem.
Let's seal off the troublesome area where John Jones died, put up a plaque, maybe even close the cave for a year to let his family grieve and visit the site in peace and quiet, but then let's open the rest of the cave for others to enjoy. You don't honor a person by shutting down what they enjoyed doing.
